Cast off for the Fight against Leukaemia

Well-known German actors will sail the 2. BAVARIA José Carreras Yacht Race for charity

Munich/Palma de Mallorca, 7 June 2013 - Only four months to the start of the 2. BAVARIA José Carreras Yacht Race (, which will take place off Mallorca's coast from 12th to 17th October 2013. One year after the successful premiere of this unique charity yacht race the claim will once more be "Cast off for the fight against leukaemia". The goal of the yacht race is once again to raise funds for the Deutsche José Carreras Leukämie-Stiftung, the German leukaemia foundation of the world-renowned Spanish tenor José Carreras.

A wide range of celebrities will again be on board the yachts, such as the well-known German TV and movie actors Ursula Karven, Rufus Beck and Michael Brandner. Actors Lara Joy Körner, Benedikt Blaskovic, Julie Engelbrecht, Eva-Maria Grein, Michael Roll, Ulrike Tscharre, Thure Reifenstein, Olivia Silhavy, Haio von Stetten, and Markus Böker as well as TV producer Alexander Funk will also be among the celebrities.

All of them have already spent a week training in Germany in spring und have earned their sailing licence. In October these celebrities are going to sail together with experienced skippers and former leukaemia patients on board several BAVARIA yachts, like the models 55, 50, 40, 40 S, 33 and, of course, the award-winning flagship Cruiser 56.

The organizer and initiator of this charity event is BAVARIA Yachtbau, the world's biggest series shipyard, in cooperation with Match Center Germany, which organised the German Match Race on Lake Constance  a few weeks ago on Whitsun. This event attracted 25,000 visitors.




Additional partners of the 2. BAVARIA José Carreras Yacht Race are the fair INTERBOOT Friedrichshafen, the lorry company Scania-RTS and the hotels "seevital Hotel Schiff" in Langenargen and "Golfhotel Kaiserin Elisabeth" in Feldafing.

Last year this amazing charity event was broadly covered by German media, including by the leading people magazine Bunte and the major TV channel ARD.  The public service broadcaster has hosted the famous "José Carreras Gala" since 1994, which is a highlight on German TV during the Christmas season with around five million viewers and a huge double-digit market share. In the last 18 years the total donations collected during the show have exceeded 100 million Euro.

The 2nd BAVARIA José Carreras Yacht Race is open for all boats.
